Numerical simulation of the formation of spherulites in polycrystalline binary mixtures

Spherulites are growth patterns of average spherical form which may occur in the polycrystallization binary mixtures due to misoriented angles at low grain boundaries. The dynamic spherulites can be described by a phase field model where underlying free energy depends on two variables, namely local degree crystallinity and orientation angle. For solution we suggest splitting scheme based an implicit discretization time decouples each step requires successive evolutionary inclusion angle equation crystallinity. space is done piecewise linear Lagrangian finite elements. fully discretized amounts systems nonlinear algebraic equations. numerical predictor-corrector continuation method with discrete as parameter featuring constant predictor semismooth Newton for first system classical second corrector. This allows adaptive choice steps. Numerical results given formation Category 1 spherulite.
